THE RELIGION CATHARE

Catharism appeared in Western Christianity in the middle of the 12th century. This medieval Christian movement is no stranger to the dominant spirituality of its time. On the contrary, like other contemporary religious movements, it calls for a return to the Church model of the early days of Christianity. Catharism condemns the Roman Church and its hierarchy on the pretext that they do not respect the ideals of Christ. The Last Cathar
It was in front of the castle of Villerouge-Termenes that the last Cathar Guilhem Bélibaste perished. He was a singular man, born around 1280, who in 1305 had killed a shepherd considered to be a whistleblower of the Inquisition. Our Cathar, having become perfect, set up as a craftsman in the province of Teruel, but having married, he lost the quality of perfect for having violated the obligation of chastity. This did not prevent him from being arrested, but as he refused to renounce the Cathar faith, he was burned alive.
