a region of equilibrium

Burgundy-Franche-Comté represents 4% of the national economy and demographics. A region with an industrial and agricultural tradition, it has been on a path of slow growth since the 2000s. Like the entire national territory, population and employment are distributed unevenly in the region, forming four major groups. On the Rhine-Rhône axis from Chalon-sur-Saône to Belfort, the urban network is multipolar but tight, favoring the interdependence of territories and exchanges, and thereby network operation. In the rest of the territory, the urban network is looser, with a few large employment centers that are more autonomous or more oriented towards outside the region: Sens, Auxerre, Nevers, Mâcon. The eastern part of the region has a very specific profile, due to the attractiveness of the very close Swiss employment centers. armand peugeot

  • Visionary, Armand Peugeot decided to manufacture automobiles. In 1889, he built a steam tricycle driven by a boiler designed by Léon Serpollet. It is the first to have a real seat and springs. Its engine has two cylinders and drives the drive axle with a chain. He presented it at the Paris Universal Exhibition and received mixed comments. In The Scientific Year, Louis Figuier writes: “We saw a model at the Exhibition, but it left a lot to be desired and we can still only consider this device of locomotion as in the state of study”
